Dog Mauling Update: The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department confirms the dog that mauled and killed a Dayton woman has been killed. Linda Oliver, 63, died after being attacked in her yard on County Road 6478 around 10 Monday morning. Law enforcement and residents of the West Woodland Hills Subdivision have been on the lookout for that missing dog, believed to have already been wounded by an officer’s bullet. A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed the dog Tuesday evening in the same area where the attack occurred. The dog will now be tested for rabies.  


500 Tickets: Tickets are on sale now for the annual Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce 500 August 9 at 6 DaytonCommunity Center. The $100 ticket price includes a steak dinner and entry into the 500 drawing. Twelve great prizes will be drawn for. Moss Bluff VFD: The Moss Bluff Volunteer Fire Department is fully operational in the wake of the June 4 burglary that left the small department decimated with $150,000 in damages and losses. A $4,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/persons involved. Those who know more, call the sheriff’s office at 936-336-4500.


New Panther Coach: The Liberty Panthers are getting a new head baseball coach. Will Joiner comes to Liberty from LaPorte, where he worked with new LISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Chad Taylor. Like Coach Taylor, Will Joiner has family connections here.


Bridgehaven: Liberty County District Attorney Logan Pickett has presented Bridehaven Children’s Advocacy Center with a $9,628 check to match the net proceeds from Bridgehaven’s 18thAnnual Golf Tournament held earlier this year. Monies for that match came from the district attorney’s crime proceeds seizure fund. Bridgehaven Children’s Advocacy Center serves victims of child abuse in both Liberty and Chambers counties.
