LISD: Liberty school trustees hired a new band director and elected board officers during Wednesday night’s monthly meeting.  Liberty High School's new band director is Bob Smith Jr. He comes to Liberty from Hardin High where he has directed the Hornets band since 2004. Following the canvassing of the votes from the trustee election, Lloyd Pierce and June Jackson took the oath of office. Liberty School trustees then re-elected Brandon Smith to another year as President and Matt Harris will again be Vice President and Secretary again is June Jackson.


Investigation: The investigation into the hit-and-run death of a man riding a bike on FM 1409 is ongoing. Tuesday June 11th, the body of 51-year-old Mickel Peeler was found on FM 1409 not far from his smashed bicycle. The Texas Department of Public Safety reports the driver of the vehicle that struck him, Bobbie Jo Arnold of Baytown, is said to have left the area, returning later in a different vehicle. So far, no criminal charges have been filed. One reliable source indicated details of the investigation may go before a grand jury to determine what, if any, charges would be filed against the hit-and-run driver.


U.M. Army:  A group of 72 Methodist teenagers and adult volunteers are visiting south Liberty County this week to make minor home repairs and build wheelchair ramps and porches for those in need. The 32-year-old organization has more than 4,000 people participating in about 1,700 projects each year.


LibertyLion of the Year: Monday night, the Liberty Lions Club honored their top member. Named Lion of the Year for 2013 is long time member Kenneth Herron. New Lion president Jody Regen said the dedicated Lion, Kenneth Herron, is one of those members who never says no to a worthwhile Lion community project and never complains.
