Drug Sentence: A 39-year-old Silsbee man, Eric LaPaul Harper, has been sentenced to 240 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges. Harper was stopped in Liberty County for a traffic violation after he was intercepted on a wiretap ordering six ounces of methamphetamine. According to information from U.S. Attorney John Bales, Harper received those drugs in Conroe and was stopped while returning to Silsbee. Recovered in the stop was a major quantity - 165.8 grams - of methamphetamine.


Mixed Drinks: The Liberty Committee for Economic Growth is a group of Liberty business people asking voters to support allowing the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed drinks. One of those committee members is John Hebert Jr. who says this is not about promoting alcohol it is about promoting economic development. The group would like to get the issue before voters in November 2013. John Hebert Jr. said they need 450 qualified signatures by July 12th in order to get the question of allowing the legal sale of alcohol in the city to be considered by Liberty voters on the Nov. election ballot. Hardin VFD Flag Day Fundraiser: The Hardin Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate Flag Day with food, games and fun Saturday at the Hardin High School Cafetorium. The annual fundraiser benefits the Hardin volunteers. Catfish dinners for $8 a plate will be served starting at 11 a.m. There will be a live and silent auction, games plus a chance to dunk a firefighter in the dunking booth.


Spirit Horse: Spirit Horse in Liberty is a therapeutic riding center for kids and adults with physical, mental or emotional disabilities.  Executive Director Donna Wiebelhaus said, in the three years they’ve been in operation, they’ve seen amazing progress, from kids speaking their first complete sentences to gaining enough strength to sit up on their own.
