LISD Trustee: Reliable information indicates Ron Mayo has filed a restraining order in court  against the Liberty School District, for which he is an elected board member. The school board member’s son, Taylor is reportedly being forced to take end of course exams. His good grades had previously exempted him from those. That and additional punishment is for an altercation with another student. There is a hearing set for 9 a.m. today in Judge Chap Cain’s 253rdDistrict Courtroom.

Teacher Retirement: The teacher retirement system in Texas underwent some changes during the recently ended 83rdLegislative session. Representative John Otto said those changes allow for some cost of living increases and make the plan actuarially sound. He said teachers, school districts and the state will pay more as a result but the program is now financially sound, providing raises for those retired for at least 10 years.

LHS UIL: In Liberty, it has been a banner year for high school students reaching the level of state finals competition in UIL. 12 LHS students advanced to state in solo and ensemble choir competition. Five of those singers then were judged with a highest possible #1 rating. A high school freshman, Juan Ochoa went to state UIL in number sense, and the high school lit crit team finished second in state. Congratulations to these talented students and the coaches and teachers that help them succeed.
