DaytonFire Station: A Dayton woman was arrested Tuesday after an incident at the Dayton Volunteer Fire Station. Dayton Police Sgt. Doug O’Quinn said just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, fire department personnel found a woman sitting in a Dayton fire department vehicle at the station on Cook Street. Without giving an explanation for why she was in the building or vehicle, 33 -year-old Rebecca Tarrant got in her own vehicle and fled. Sgt. O’Quinn said her vehicle apparently ran out of gas on Hwy 90 at the Trinity River in Liberty. She was charged with evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle. 


LISD Second Election: During Tuesday night’s Liberty school board meeting, trustees ordered a second election be held on Saturday, June 15th. A recount of the May 11thelection results took place with the same outcome as Election Day, June Jackson and newcomer Jeffrey Smart in a 196 to 196 draw.


DaytonSchoolBoard: Tuesday night, the Dayton School Board canvassed the returns of the May 11thelection – and afterward declared Dr. Luke Chachere winner of a new term in Position #1, and Larry Wadzeck as the new trustee of the Position 2 seat. In other action, the board rejected all bids on a major summer construction project. The district is currently seeking new bids that might possibly bring the project into reality so that work could be completed during the summer.


More TVE Scholarships: We accidentally left some recipients of TVE Scholarships off yesterday’s radiogram. They are; Emily Neuman of East Chambers, Thomas Oliver of Barbers Hill, and Brody Taylor of Hardin. Those students will each receive a $1,000 Participation scholarship.


Closed for Memorial Day: TheLiberty CountyCourthouse and all city offices in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland are closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Banks and post offices will also be closed Monday for the holiday. Waste Management Garbage Service will not run Monday in Cleveland, Dayton or Liberty.


Obituaries: Russell Lee Willis, 52 of Baytown. No public services will be held.
