New Courthouse Security: Starting next Wednesday, the Liberty County Courthouse will be under a new security system.  All doors with the exception of the west side door, on Travis St., will be locked. Metal detectors at the west side door have been installed and all individuals entering the courthouse will have to pass through them.  Parking on the west side of the building is now reserved for the public.

LibertyCityCouncil: At their next meeting, May 14th, the Liberty City Council will discuss two possible new city ordinances that may be controversial. Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett said they will just be up for discussion, but he encouraged citizens to voice their opinions. The first would ban use of cell phones – either calling or texting – while driving within the city limits. The second would be a ban on smoking in public buildings in the city.  The Liberty City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. on the 14thin city council chambers at Liberty City Hall.

Election Day: This Saturday voting in all City Council and School Board Elections is from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Liberty School District and City Council voters can cast ballots at Bethel Assembly of God Church on FM 563, Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames and Liberty Center. All voting on Saturday for the Dayton City Council and Dayton School Board is at the Dayton Community Center. In addition to Liberty and Dayton, there are also elections in the city of Hardin, Hardin ISD, Hull-Daisetta ISD and Cleveland ISD. KSHN will have election returns for all these races after the polls close Saturday night.
