Evading: A 22-year-old Liberty man, Samuel Ray Ganz, arrested for evading arrest was also found to have stolen property in his possession. After finally being stopped near Hwy 90 and Main, Liberty Police Officers found property in the vehicle that linked him to at least one car burglary. Additional charges are expected.

Prohibited Weapons: The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Hardin man for additional weapons violations following his arrest for having an illegal sawed off shotgun. Deputies were called to CR 2066 for a trespassing call. Deputies found Vernon Wayne Alberson, 44 of Hardin sitting in a truck at the back of the property. No weapons were found on Alberson, however various weapons, ammunition, and other items were found in the truck, including a sawed off shotgun. Vernon Alberson was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon. At last report he was still in the Liberty County Jail.

Seeking Pictures: Sandy Pickett of Liberty sits on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. She is also a local member of the Atascocita Historical Society. Mrs. Pickett said she’s asking for the public’s help in locating old photographs of the old Hull Rotary Building that will be used as part of a presentation this September. They are looking for old photographs from social events and meetings held at the historic Hull Rotary Building. Those who have photos are asked to call Sandy Pickett at (936) 336 5397 or drop them off at the KSHN Studios, 2099 Sam Houston St., Liberty.

Threatened Turtle: An injured Alligator Snapping Turtle, listed as a threatened species by the Texas Parks and Wildlife, has been rescued, operated on, rehabilitated and released at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge here in Liberty County. Refuge Manager, Stuart Marcus, said the turtle was discovered with fishhooks in its cheek and throat. Recently it was deemed healthy and released into the protected area of the Trinity River Refuge, where other snapping turtles have been observed.
