West Nile: More than 580 cases of West Nile Virus have been identified across the state of Texas, one of those being here in Liberty County. Both the City Managers of Dayton and Liberty say mosquito fogger trucks are working to lower the mosquito population within the city limits. To help lower your exposure to mosquitoes, experts say keep grass and weeds mowed, drain standing water, and avoid going outside during the peak mosquito times of dusk and dawn.  If you do go out during these times, wear long sleeves and long pants, and spray mosquito repellent containing DEET.

Brazos Transit: The Brazos Transit bus system that serves Liberty and fourteen other Southeast Texas counties has announced a reduced operating schedule beginning September 1st. According to Wendy Whedon, with Brazos Transit, a reduction in state and federal funding has prompted the bus system to shorten their schedule by several hours per day. This is the only change to the bus schedule, everything else is the same.
