New Charges: A second charge of state-jail felony theft has been added to Liberty County Sheriffs Deputy Anthony E. Lewis of Humble.  According to Harris County court records, in this second charge, Tony Lewis allegedly stole a generator and cutter. Court documents show bail was set at $50,000 on the first charge and $42,000 on the most recent charge. Records show the local lawman is free on bond.

Drug Charges: Information from Cleveland Interim Police Chief Darrel Broussard indicates that early Sunday morning, officers went to a home just off FM 787. Chief Broussard said when officers kicked in the front door; Bernard Simpson attempted to flee through the back door, but was captured a short distance away. During the subsequent search, Cleveland PD Officers reportedly found marijuana; crack cocaine, Xanax, a tobacco grinder, digital scales and other drug paraphernalia. JP #1 Bobby Rader set bond for Simpson at $60,000 for three drug charges and evading arrest. Also arrested and charged with possession was 17 year old Darcell Kemp. Judge Rader set his bond at $9,500. At last report, both men remain in the Liberty County Jail.

Dayton City Council: The Dayton City Council held its second and last public hearing on the proposed tax rate of $0.6853 per $100 of assessed property value. Council is scheduled to adopt that new tax rate at a meeting on August 30th.  In other action, council held a public hearing on a replat of the Valero property on Hwy 321 at FM 1960. City Planner Lynn Barrett said Valero plans to construct a new $3.1 million dollar store, called the “Big Diamond” store, one of the largest facilities in the Valero operation. The new facility would include a fueling center for eighteen wheelers.

Hunting Reminders: Hunting seasons is not so far away. Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Adam Broll said it’s very important to make sure you hunt on public lands or property where you have permission to hunt. He also reminds hunters that a state approved hunter education course is required for all hunters under age 40 who have not already taken one.
