VOLUME 27, NO. 146 THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2012 **************************************************** Scam: It’s an old scam that’s turning up again. Someone gets a call that they have won a large sum of money. The catch? The winner needs to wire money first to pay the tax on the much larger amount. Gary Havard, Director of the Liberty Brookshire Store said they have seen two examples of the crime just last week. Mr. Havard said in both cases, customer service staff became suspicious and were able to stop the western union money transfers, saving the scammers victims thousands of dollars. Remember; never give out personal information to someone who contacts you, and most of all, if something seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t. **************************************************** Stockman Wins: The unofficial totals from the run off contest between Steve Stockman and Stephen Takach for the new U.S. Congressional District #36 are in from Liberty, Chambers and the seven other counties that cast ballots in that race. Candidate Steve Stockman is the unofficial winner and he will be up against Democrat Max Martin in the November General Election. Unofficial totals show Stockman with 21,427 votes. His Republican opponent Stephen Takach had 17,348 votes. **************************************************** CPR Classes: The Liberty Volunteer Fire Department will hold CPR classes for both those in the medical field and the general public. The classes will be held the third Saturday of each month at the Liberty Fire Department. The cost of classes range from $35 to $45 per person per class.
