New Superintendent: A 1985 Liberty High School graduate is now the top administrator for the Liberty Independent School District. Tuesday night, Liberty ISD trustees voted unanimously to officially hire Dr. Cody Abshier as the school district’s new superintendent. KSHN reported Dr. Abshier was named the lone finalist for that top administrative post back on June 19. State law required a 21-day waiting period before that decision could come to a final vote.

Boomerang Booming: Liberty County’s largest private employer, Boomerang Tube continues to grow. Now just two years old, only a few months a go a $45 million dollar expansion plan was announced.  That work is now complete and they are at 570 employees in all departments. Their electrical use with the city of liberty has become a huge number but perhaps not quite as much as originally anticipated. Presently Boomerang is using an average of 25 megawatts of power each month.

Bus Riders: Officials of the Dayton Independent School District are asking all children who plan to ride Dayton ISD school buses, new and returning, to register as soon a possible before the new school year. DISD Assistant Superintendent Doug Coleman said this will allow the transportation department to calculate how many students they will need to accommodate, where they are and if any new bus routes will be needed.  For information call the Dayton ISD Transportation Department at (936) 258-7993. You can also go online to the Dayton Transportation Department website. Get there from ours, www.kshn.com click on schools.

Dayton City Council: At Monday night’s Dayton City Council meeting, City Manager David Douglas told council longtime Municipal Court Judge Glenn Pruitt had indicated he would be retiring at the end of this month.  Judge Pruitt has held that position for more than a decade.
