Shooting: The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 44-year-old Raymundo Charrubias, suspected in the shooting of an unidentified man at a party early Sunday morning.  Sheriffs Captain Rex Evans said they believe the suspect may have fled to Houston, Harlingen or into Mexico. Sheriff’s investigators say he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Raymundo Charrubias’ whereabouts or Sunday’s shooting is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department at (936) 336-4500. Crime Stopper tips can be left at www.libertytxsheriff.com.

Waterline Insurance: Letters offering low-cost insurance for emergency repairs to their water service line have now begun circulating in the city of Liberty. We reported the city of Dayton was warning residents to use caution if they receive such a letter. Although these letters look official, they are in fact solicitations from a private company. No matter where you live, if you receive one of these letters, be very careful about giving out any personal credit card or bank account information.

Sales Tax Payments: Sales tax payments to cities across Liberty County are up 15.2 percent in July when compared to the same month last year. Statewide, sales tax income increased 15.2 percent. For these reports, sales taxes collected by retailers back in May go to the state in June and arrive back with each city’s share in July. These funds are used by local entities in their budgets. Locally, sales tax payments for July were up in Dayton, Cleveland, Ames, Daisetta, Devers, Hardin and Kenefick. Those Liberty County towns down in sales tax revenue this month are Liberty, North Cleveland and Plum Grove. For the first seven months of 2012, payments to incorporated cities countywide are up 6.5 percent for a total local take of $4.5 million.
