Funds Consolidation: State Representative John Otto said one of the main topics of recent budget hearings at the state level is the practice of using money left over in funds dedicated to a specific use as a last minute maneuver to balance the state budget. The Dayton republican said this accounting trick has been going on for twenty years, and in the interest of transparency, needs to end. He said lawmakers will need to come up with other ways to make sure the budget is balanced as is required by state law.

Lib-Day Chamber Lunch: The Liberty Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly noon luncheon is Wednesday at the Liberty Center. This month’s guest speakers are Shawna Kreuzer, of K & K Towing and Juan Venegas, owner Casa Don Boni. E-Books: Liberty Municipal Library Director Dana Abshire said they have contracted with the Piney Woods Digital Consortium to provide e-books for their library patrons. The program allows library card holders to go online and select from the many electronic books available on the Piney Woods website for downloading into their personal e-readers. Dana Abshire said the hope to be online with the program by the end of August or early September.
