VOLUME 27, NO. 131 THURSDAY, JULY 12, 2012 Family Disputes Animal Cruelty: The mother of 26 year old Lachain Dever is disputing the report by the Liberty County Sheriffs Department that her son intentionally turned his dogs on a tied up pony. She said the pony belonged to a neighbor and her son, as well as other family members, were caring for the pony while trying to find it another home at the request of its owner. In addition, she said when Lachain Dever realized the dogs were attacking the pony; he managed to get one put up but was prevented from chaining the other by Liberty County Sheriffs Department deputies. Lachain Dever has been charged with animal cruelty in the death of the pony. **************************************************** Otto: A new computer software has, according to State Representative John Otto, the potential to decrease instances of fraud in the Medicaid system. The Dayton Republican said the analytical software is similar to computer programs used in Iraq and Afghanistan to predict the locations of hidden explosive devices. Otto said he would be interested in sponsoring any legislation necessary to implement the prediction software as part of the state’s Medicaid system. **************************************************** Waterline Insurance: The City of Dayton is warning residents to use caution if they receive letters offering them low-cost insurance for emergency repairs to their water service line. Dayton City Manager David Douglas said the company is called Homeserve and he received a number of calls wanting to know if these solicitation letters are connected to the city or state agencies. The answer is “no”. The Dayton city manager said these official looking letters can easily be mistaken for an official state document. **************************************************** Pebble Beach: Liberty High school graduate Drake Mosley has returned home after claiming 14th place in the 2012 Nature Valley First Tee open at the famed Pebble Beach golf course in Florida.
