Fatality Wreck: A one-vehicle accident Saturday on FM 787  claimed the life of a husband and wife and sent four children to area hospitals. Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Cody Parrish identified the deceased as Harold Wayne Griffin, 37, and his wife, Jessica Ann Vitelo – both of Hoop ‘N Holler. Two children were taken by Lifeflight Air Ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hosptial in Houston. Two other injured kids were transported by Liberty County EMS to Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Three of those children were the couple’s kids while the fourth is not.

Allison Story on TV: It was sixteen years ago when a popular young woman from a prominent family was murdered here in Liberty. Tonight, on the television network called Investigation Discovery – part of the Discovery Channel, a 30-minute program will air about that young woman – Lisa Allison, and her family, friends and those involved in the capture and prosecution of her killer. That program airs tonight at 9 local time. Then, it will be rebroadcast several more times in coming days.

Locals Honored: Liberty Elks Lodge recently presented its Most Valuable Student Scholarship and also honored a Hardin resident as Citizen of the Year. The Liberty Elks presented a $4,000 scholarship to recent Dayton High School graduate Clayton Robinson. Clayton ranked third in the DHS Class of 2012. He’s the son of Tammi Robinson of Dayton and Kevin Robinson of Houston. The Liberty Elks also honored Linda McCarty Mann of Hardin as Citizen of the Year. This award honors a non-member who exemplifies a charitable character.

Drill Team: The state-champion Liberty County 4-H Mounted Drill Team will hold its annual dress rehearsal tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the arena on the Trinity Valley Exposition Fairgrounds. The public is invited to see the reigning state champions in both Precession and Freestyle horsemanship as they prepare for this year’s state finals in Abilene. The event is free, but they will be serving barbecue as a fund raiser. They also will hold an auction and have several raffles.
