VOLUME 27, NO. 119 MONDAY, JUNE 25, 2012 **************************************************** Bank Robber: David Glen Manuel of Kenefick has been sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in federal prison for robbing two banks – Security State Bank of Dayton and Bay Credit Union in Florida. Court documents show that on April 5, 2011, Manuel robbed Security State Bank through the use of force, violence and intimidation. Those federal documents show he stole more than $7,500 from the Dayton financial institution. None of that was recovered. Then, on April 15, 2011, the Liberty County man made off with $5,600 from Bay Credit Union in Florida. He was arrested 12 days later. David Manuel was given two 188-month sentences to run concurrently, meaning at the same time. He also was ordered to make restitution of $14,175. **************************************************** Tax Office: The recently opened Liberty County tax office branch in the annex on FM 1960 in Dayton is fully operational – that’s according to Liberty County Tax-Assessor Collector Ricky Brown. He said there are now two full-time clerks in that Dayton office each weekday. Ricky Brown said those clerks can handle all functions of the tax office, with the exception of vehicle title work. The Liberty County Annex tax office in Dayton is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closes during the noon hour. That office’s phone number is 936-258-4705. **************************************************** Humphrey’s Restaurant: The owners of a well-known Dayton restaurant announced the business is temporarily closing. Humphrey’s restaurant in the Vineyard building closed Friday but will reopen in a couple of months at a different site. While the new location for Humphrey’s has not yet been announced, owner Karen Humphrey said it will definitely be in Dayton. **************************************************** 4-H Team: The state-champion Liberty County 4-H Mounted Drill Team competed this week at both the district meet and a national competition. The local group of horseback riders captured a total of nine placements at those two events. Now, they have returned home to prepare for the upcoming state meet in Abilene where they hope to defend their championship titles.
