VOLUME 27, NO. 113 FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2012 **************************************************** Keystone Pipeline: Several taxing entities in Liberty County may soon get a new boost to their property tax values. Construction is expected to begin this summer on the Transcanada Gulf Coast Pipeline project that will route oil from Crushing, Oklahoma, to both Houston and Port Arthur. Information provided by the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce shows that 485-mile, 36-inch pipeline is slated to come through Liberty County. In fact, a pump station planned for southeast of Moss Hill will be the split point that sends crude oil either east toward Port Arthur and Nederland or west toward Mt. Belvieu and on to the Houston ship channel. Hardin ISD officials say, when completed, the Gulf Coast pipeline will become their largest taxpayer. Other local taxing entities along the planned pipeline will also benefit. The total impact on property values just here in Liberty County could be greater than $33.75 million. **************************************************** Voting Locations: Voting locations are set for the party primary run off election July 31. Early voting will start Monday July 23 and run through July 27th, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Liberty Co. Courthouse and the Cleveland Annex. In Hardin early voting will be held those same dates, but from 3 until 7 p.m. Election Day voting will take place at the Cleveland Civic Center, the Dayton Community Center, Heights Baptist Church in Liberty, Rural Shade Baptist Church in the Tarkington area and at Moss Hill Pentecostal Church. **************************************************** New DHS Band Director: We reported that Dayton High School has a new band director. Gus Figeac has been hired to lead the Bronco band program. He arrived in Dayton this past week. In Texas, Mr. Figeac has worked for both the Big Lake and Copper school districts. Prior to that, the new DHS band director was in Florida. The new Broncos band master earned his bachelor’s of arts degree in music from Louisiana State University with his master’s from Northwestern University. He served in the Navy for 12 years and is entering his 13th year of teaching. **************************************************** Obituaries: Sinia Elizabeth Turner, 86 of Liberty.
