Health Care Costs: The Cleveland based Health Center of Southeast Texas has expanded health care services to the southern portion of Liberty County. For now, Health Center providers are seeing patients at 401 Palmer Street in Liberty once a month. Health Center Director Steve Racciato said state funding for this expansion is being provided due to what he called an obvious need. According to Racciato, annual health care costs in Liberty County are twice as high as the average for the 154 counties across the state. The Health Center of Southeast Texas will be seeing patients on Wednesday June 20. Payment is charged on a sliding scale for those who qualify. For an appointment, call (936) 334-1185.

Blood Supply Low: Lifeshare Blood Center is reporting as happens so often, the blood supply is dangerously low. According to Lifeshare Community Liaison Dorothy Nettles, the summer months often leave life saving blood in short supply with vacations and other outdoor activities taking priority of donations. The next chance to give the gift of life is this Saturday at First Baptist Church in Batson from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then on Tuesday June 26th you can donate blood at Liberty’s First United Methodist Church from 3 to 7 p.m. Lifeshare Blood Center will be at Brookshire Brothers in Liberty the next day, Wednesday June 27th, from 2 to 6 p.m. For information, call Dorothy Nettles at (936) 298-2689.
